Renting a Tropical Island? Yes, it is Possible
76When you think about renting a tropical island you probably imagine that it is the domain of the rich and famous. In fact, renting a private island is more affordable than you may think. Just read this guide to renting an island and you’ll be acting out your Robinson Crusoe fantasies before you know it.
Tropical islands for rent around the world
One of the best options for renting a private island would have to be renting an island in the tropics. Think swaying palm trees, fresh coconuts plucked from the tree, clean white beaches and endless ocean views with only the sounds of the breeze and the sea lapping on the sand to disturb you.
Sounds like you’d have to pay a lot of money for that kind of experience right? In fact, you can rent your own island for less than $1000 per week. Imagine that! If you went with a few people it would cost you only a few hundred dollars each.
There are literally thousands of cheap islands to rent around the world and it would be impossible to list them all. Below are a few options and all are available for less than $1000 per week:
- Garden Island, Fiji
- Kerala Island Resort, India
- Enedrik Island, Marshall Islands
- Lissenung Island, Papua New Guinea
- Macan Island, Indonesia
Things to Think About When Renting a Private Island
When looking for islands to rent you have to think about more than just the price you pay for the island. Other things to think about include:
- The cost of getting to the island. The more remote the island, the more it will cost you to get there. Islands will generally only be accessible by private plane or chartered boat and this will add to the cost of your holiday.
- Sleeping quarters – while some islands may have basic accommodation, others may require you to bring a tent and sleeping gear. Although I can’t imagine anything nicer than laying down a sleeping mat and sleeping out under the stars.
- Amenities – facilities are likely to be very basic on these low-cost islands. Expect to cook outside, utilize a water tank for washing and take all your rubbish home with you. A general rule is the more remote the island, the less facilities will be available.
- Supplies – you will likely have to bring all your food and water supplies with you to the island and there may not be much in the way of food storage on the island. One option would be to arrange to have supplies dropped off to you daily by someone on the mainland.
The Sky's the Limit
Of course, if you are prepared to spend only a little more money you can rent an island with enclosed sleeping quarters, electricity and running water, and even on site staff. It’s all up to you and your budget.
The great thing is that you don’t need to have a lot of money to experience a Hollywood star’s lifestyle. So what are you waiting for. Get on board the S.S.Minnow and set sail for your own tropical island.
